Summer Recap

Wow–have I really not posted since May 20th?? Truly pathetic and I will be surprised if I still even have any readers out there!

Well, I guess my long absence calls for a summer recap of where I have been and what in the world I have been doing with my time. Here goes…

I ended the school year with some various in-service and trainings I had to attend and immediately dove right into teaching a week-long art camp. That went well and made us some extra cash to use for a vacation. So, in late June the hubs and I embarked on a 2 week road trip that resulted in logging over 3000 miles and passing through 15 states.  Our first big stop was North Carolina where we visited friends and family (sorry, no pics!). Next we made our way to the Poconos in Pennsylvania for a weekend wedding extravaganza.

The wedding (and entire weekend) took place at a lovely resort called The Inn at Pocono Manor. The ceremony was outdoors and got ridiculously hot (that’s why I am “glowing” in this picture)…PA experienced a “heat wave” while we were there…nothing big for us Texans but it was in the upper 90s which is unusual for them. The heat didn’t put a damper on the fun though! The wedding was a traditional Zoroastrian ceremony so it was a new experience for us. While we couldn’t understand the bulk of the ceremony (different language!) I always enjoy learning about and experiencing other cultures.

The bride and groom…

The bride, her parents, and the groom’s mother all wore traditional Indian wedding attire which was very beautiful. Then, between the wedding and the reception, the bride actually changed into a traditional wedding dress. Fun! The groom is one of Jason’s buddies from his time spent in FL at school. I had met him a couple of times before but this was the first time meeting his wife. They are an ultra fun and generous couple…we had such a fantastic four days celebrating their marriage!

Even the President stopped by…

We had an awesome time!

We all stayed there at the Inn, had all our meals together and participated in various activities all weekend long. Friday night was the rehearsal dinner, horseshoes and other games, then a bonfire with live music and s’mores. Saturday morning was a breakfast buffet and a trip to the spa. Saturday afternoon and evening were the wedding, cocktail hour, the reception, and then late night video game playing for all the guys in one of the hotel suites. Sunday morning (July 4th) was another breakfast buffet, skydiving, dinner at an Indian buffet, swimming, and watching local fireworks. I didn’t skydive but Jason did…

Success…

All in all, it was a fantastic weekend and I am so glad we made the effort to go up there for the wedding. From PA we took off up through New York state to Niagara Falls…more on that leg of our trip coming soon…
