Dissapointment

I just read today that Domino magazine is folding. I have only recently become a big fan of this magazine, but I have been loving it! After a co-worker lent me a couple of past issues, I became a subscriber back in October. I signed up for 2 years for $10 or something really ridiculously low like that. I guess that makes it no surprise that they are going under with offers like that.

The rumor is that current subscribers can have a partial refund or continue their subscription with a different Conde Nast magazine. We’ll see (I have my doubts we will ever see a refund). Those who know me well, know I am a magazine junkie…it is a guilty pleasure and one of the few “luxuries” I will spend money to buy (although I do only get them when it is a school fundraiser or a really, really good deal, such as my $4/year subscription to BH&G and I get them as gifts, too). My mother, grandmother and I also do a lot of magazine trading. They each have about 3-4 different subscriptions and I currently receive Better Homes and Gardens, Real Simple, Taste of Home and the soon to end Domino. Other of my favs have recently folded as well…Cottage Living (the best magazine I have ever received), Blueprint, and Country Home. I guess design blogs and websites will soon replace magazines altogether, but I gotta say, there’s just nothing like curling up with a good old-fashioned paper magazine.

  1. I’ve been reading everywhere about all of these great magazines going under, and I never had the chance to see any of them! I’ve never had a subscription to a magazine dedicated to home decorating. Maybe that’s why my home needs so much help! I just sent in a card today to get a free subscription to BH&G, so I’m excited to check it out.

    Thought of you…

  2. A lot of the mags have actual items that are WAY out of my league, price-wise, but I love to see the ideas anyway and then do it my own way on my own budget. I also like the recipes.

I LOVE ME Home Companion, too. I don’t get it right now…I had a gift subscription that ran out about 6 months ago. I haven’t renewed because it’s been pricier than I want to pay. I am still holding out hope they will send me a great deal to try to entice me back!

And, you find the best blogs!!

  3. Country Home folded in January as did Cottage Living,if I remember correctly, and Mary Engelbreit. Hopefully something great will take the places of these magazines. All that AND Domino? It’s too much!
